Assignment - Infographics - 120
These instructions serve as general guidelines. Adapt them as needed to suit the specific requirements of the task or creative vision. Avoid following them rigidly without considering the context.
Objective
Create an infographic in Canva that shows the layout of a formal letter, with each part labeled and explained using callout boxes.
Instructions
Letter Layout to Reproduce
Design a full formal letter on your canvas. The letter does not need to be about a real topic - use a short sample letter (for example, a student writing to a school principal requesting a leave of absence). Then add labeled callouts pointing to each part.
Parts to Label
Label and explain the following parts:
- Sender’s Address (top right corner) - Your own address, written without your name. Include street, area, city, and date below it.
- Date - Written below the sender’s address. Use the full date format: 20 March 2026.
- Recipient’s Name and Address (left side, below the date) - The full name, title, and address of the person you are writing to.
- Subject Line - A brief, clear statement of what the letter is about. Example: “Subject: Application for Leave of Absence.”
- Salutation - How you address the recipient. Use “Dear Mr./Ms. [Surname]” if you know the name, or “Dear Sir/Madam” if you do not.
- Opening Paragraph - State the purpose of the letter clearly in the first one or two sentences.
- Body Paragraph(s) - Provide the details, reasons, or information supporting your request or message.
- Closing Paragraph - Summarize the request or thank the reader. Example: “I look forward to your kind consideration.”
- Sign-off - Use “Yours sincerely” if you used the recipient’s name in the salutation. Use “Yours faithfully” if you used “Dear Sir/Madam.”
- Signature and Printed Name - Sign above and print your full name below.
Design in Canva
- Show the letter as a white page on a light background.
- Use callout arrows pointing from each part of the letter to a labeled explanation box.
- Color-code the callout boxes by section type: address/date in one color, salutation/sign-off in another, body sections in a third.
Required Elements
- A complete sample letter layout.
- All 10 parts labeled with callout boxes.
- The “sincerely vs. faithfully” rule clearly noted.
- Title: “How to Write a Formal Letter.”
