Assignment - Infographics - 113
Objective
Create a concept map in Canva that connects the water cycle to the wider ideas it relates to - weather, climate, human water use, and the impact of human activity on the cycle.
Instructions
Central Concept
Place “The Water Cycle” at the center.
Main Branches
Four Processes: Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, Collection - connected to each other in sequence and back to the center.
Weather Patterns: Precipitation causes rain and floods. Evaporation affects humidity. Condensation produces clouds and fog. Connect to: monsoon season in Pakistan, drought.
Human Water Use: Drinking water, irrigation for agriculture, industrial use, hydroelectric power generation (dams like Tarbela). Water is withdrawn from the cycle and returned after use (sometimes polluted).
Climate: The water cycle distributes heat around the Earth. Warmer temperatures increase evaporation rates. Changes to the water cycle affect rainfall patterns and water availability.
Human Impact on the Cycle: Deforestation reduces transpiration. Pollution of rivers and groundwater. Urban development increases surface runoff and reduces absorption into soil. Water shortages in cities like Karachi.
Importance: Freshwater for all living things, food production, regulating Earth’s temperature.
Design in Canva
- Central node with five or six branches.
- Use blue tones for the water-related branches, green for vegetation and environment, grey for human impact.
- Add short connecting labels on arrows to show the relationship.
Required Elements
- Four water cycle processes as one branch.
- At least 4 broader concept branches.
- Local examples (Pakistan, Karachi, Tarbela dam) included.
- Title: “The Water Cycle and Its Connections.”
