Assignment - Infographics - 108

These instructions serve as general guidelines. Adapt them as needed to suit the specific requirements of the task or creative vision. Avoid following them rigidly without considering the context.

Objective

Create a circular calendar infographic in Canva showing the 12 months of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar, with major religious events marked at their correct positions on the wheel.

Instructions

The 12 Hijri Months

Arrange these in order around a circular wheel:

  1. Muharram
  2. Safar
  3. Rabi ul-Awwal
  4. Rabi ul-Akhir (Rabi ul-Thani)
  5. Jumada ul-Awwal
  6. Jumada ul-Akhir (Jumada ul-Thani)
  7. Rajab
  8. Sha’ban
  9. Ramadan
  10. Shawwal
  11. Dhul Qa’dah
  12. Dhul Hijjah

Key Events to Mark

Place these events on the correct months of the wheel:

  • Muharram: Islamic New Year (1st Muharram), Day of Ashura (10th Muharram)
  • Rabi ul-Awwal: Eid Milad un-Nabi - the Prophet’s birth (12th Rabi ul-Awwal)
  • Rajab: Lailat ul-Mi’raj - the Night Journey (27th Rajab)
  • Sha’ban: Lailat ul-Bara’at - the Night of Forgiveness (15th Sha’ban)
  • Ramadan: Month of fasting; Lailat ul-Qadr in the last ten nights
  • Shawwal: Eid ul-Fitr (1st Shawwal)
  • Dhul Hijjah: Hajj pilgrimage (8th-13th); Eid ul-Adha (10th Dhul Hijjah)

Include a Note on the Lunar Calendar

Add a short note on the infographic: The Hijri calendar is a lunar calendar of 354 or 355 days. It is approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar, so Islamic dates shift earlier each Gregorian year.

Design in Canva

  • Divide a circle into 12 equal segments, one per month.
  • Label each segment with the month name.
  • Mark events with a colored dot or flag indicator, with a legend.
  • Use green for the months containing major events.

Required Elements

  • All 12 months in correct order.
  • At least 7 key events marked with dates.
  • Note about the lunar calendar included.
  • Title: “The Islamic (Hijri) Calendar.”
