Assignment - Infographics - 104

These instructions serve as general guidelines. Adapt them as needed to suit the specific requirements of the task or creative vision. Avoid following them rigidly without considering the context.

Objective

Create a flowchart in Canva that maps the process a teacher follows to create classroom rules together with students, from the first day of term to ongoing review.

Instructions

Flowchart Steps

Map the process in this sequence:

  1. Prepare - Teacher thinks about what behaviors matter most for learning. Prepares open questions to ask students.
  2. Introduce - Teacher explains to students why rules matter: “Rules help us all learn and feel safe.”
  3. Discuss - Teacher asks: “What do we need to feel safe and learn well in this classroom?” Students share ideas.
  4. List and sort - Teacher writes all ideas on the board. Class groups similar ideas together.
  5. Agree - Class selects five or six rules from the list. Teacher ensures all key behaviors are covered.
  6. Write positively - Rephrase any negative rules (“no shouting”) into positive ones (“we use calm voices”).
  7. Display - Create a poster with icons. Post it at student eye level.
  8. Sign or commit - Students sign the rules poster or make a verbal agreement to follow them.
  9. Review - At the start of each term, revisit the rules. Update them if needed.

Add a Decision Point

After step 5 (Agree), add a decision diamond: “Do all students understand each rule?” → Yes: proceed to step 6. → No: discuss unclear rules further, then return to agree.

Design in Canva

  • Use rectangular boxes for process steps and a diamond for the decision point.
  • Use arrows to connect each step in order.
  • Number each step clearly.
  • Use a warm, friendly color scheme suited to a primary school context.

Required Elements

  • All 9 steps shown in order.
  • At least one decision diamond with Yes/No paths.
  • Numbered steps.
  • Title: “How to Co-Create Classroom Rules with Students.”
