Objective
Create a timeline infographic in Canva placing famous artists in history from the 15th century to the present, showing when they lived, what movement they belonged to, and what they are known for.
Important Note on Accuracy
Look up each artist’s biography and artworks online before adding them. Verify dates and work titles.
Instructions
Step 1: Choose Your Artists
Select at least 12 artists spread across the full range. Suggestions to research:
- Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) - Renaissance, Italy
- Michelangelo (1475-1564) - Renaissance, Italy
- Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) - Baroque, Netherlands
- Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) - Baroque, Netherlands
- Francisco Goya (1746-1828) - Romanticism, Spain
- Claude Monet (1840-1926) - Impressionism, France
- Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) - Post-Impressionism, Netherlands
- Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) - Cubism, Spain
- Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) - Surrealism / Mexican folk art, Mexico
- Andy Warhol (1928-1987) - Pop Art, USA
- Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) - Neo-expressionism, USA
- Banksy (born c. 1974, active 1990s-present) - Street art, UK
Step 2: For Each Artist Include
- Birth and death year (or “present” for living artists)
- Art movement
- Country
- Most recognized work with its year
Step 3: Build in Canva
- Horizontal timeline from 1450 to the present.
- Each artist gets a card or node with their name, dates, and one famous work.
- Group artists by movement using color bands along the timeline.
- Use small illustrations or icons to represent each artist’s style.
Required Elements
- At least 12 artists with birth/death years, movement, and one famous work each.
- Movement groupings shown with color.
- Title: “Famous Artists: Da Vinci to Banksy.”
