Assignment - Infographics - 095
These instructions serve as general guidelines. Adapt them as needed to suit the specific requirements of the task or creative vision. Avoid following them rigidly without considering the context.
Objective
Create a timeline infographic in Canva that maps major art movements from 1400 to 2000, showing when each began and ended, what defined it, and who its key artists were.
Important Note on Accuracy
Look up each movement online before adding dates or descriptions. Art movement dates overlap and are approximate - note this where relevant in your design.
Instructions
Step 1: Research the Movements
Find approximate dates, one defining characteristic, and one or two key artists for each of these movements:
- Renaissance (approx. 1400-1600)
- Baroque (approx. 1600-1750)
- Neoclassicism (approx. 1750-1850)
- Romanticism (approx. 1780-1850)
- Impressionism (approx. 1860-1890)
- Post-Impressionism (approx. 1880-1910)
- Expressionism (approx. 1905-1930s)
- Cubism (approx. 1907-1920s)
- Surrealism (approx. 1920s-1940s)
- Abstract Expressionism (approx. 1940s-1950s)
- Pop Art (approx. 1950s-1960s)
- Postmodernism (approx. 1970s-1990s)
Step 2: For Each Movement Include
- Name and approximate date range
- One defining characteristic (e.g., “Used light and everyday scenes” for Impressionism)
- Key artist(s) and one famous work
Step 3: Build in Canva
- Horizontal timeline from 1400 to 2000.
- Use a distinct background color per movement era.
- Show overlapping date ranges where movements coexisted.
- Add a small image or illustration representative of each movement’s style.
Required Elements
- At least 10 art movements with dates, characteristics, and key artists.
- A small visual for each movement.
- Overlapping date ranges shown where applicable.
- Title: “Major Art Movements: 1400-2000.”
