Assignment - Infographics - 080

These instructions serve as general guidelines. Adapt them as needed to suit the specific requirements of the task or creative vision. Avoid following them rigidly without considering the context.

Objective

Create a fishbone diagram in Canva that identifies why students do not complete homework on time.

What is a Fishbone Diagram?

Look up “fishbone diagram” before starting. It is also called an Ishikawa or cause-and-effect diagram. The main problem is written at the right (the fish head), and causes branch off the central spine in groups.

Instructions

Step 1: Define the Problem

Write this at the head of the diagram:

“Students do not complete homework on time”

Step 2: Identify Cause Categories

Use these as your main bones:

  • Time Management: No study schedule, procrastination, poor planning
  • Workload: Too many assignments at once, unclear instructions, not enough class time to understand the task
  • Home Environment: Household duties, shared devices, no quiet space to work
  • Motivation: Not seeing the purpose of the task, fear of making mistakes, low interest in the subject
  • Resources: No internet access, missing class notes, no reference materials at home

Step 3: Add Sub-causes

For each category, add at least two specific sub-causes based on what you observe among students you know.

Step 4: Build in Canva

  • Search for a fishbone diagram template in Canva, or build it with lines and text boxes.
  • Problem statement on the right. Categories along the spine. Sub-causes on shorter branches.
  • One color per main category.

Design Tips

  • Write cause labels in short phrases - three to five words each.
  • Use arrows pointing toward the spine to show direction.
  • Bold the category names so they stand out from sub-causes.

Required Elements

  • Problem statement clearly written at the fish head.
  • At least 5 main cause categories.
  • At least 2 sub-causes per category.
  • Color-coded branches.
