📝 Cheat Sheet

Criteria for Assessing Website Quality

Not all websites are equally reliable. Use these criteria to judge whether a website and its information can be trusted. There are 8 criteria for assessing website quality:

  1. Authority: Check the author’s credentials or the publishing organization’s reputation. Trustworthy sources clearly identify who is responsible for the content.
  2. Accuracy: Verify the facts against other reputable sources. Reliable sites reference their sources or provide evidence for their claims.
  3. Objectivity: Check whether the site has a bias or agenda. Reliable sources present information in a balanced way.
  4. Currency: Check the publication date. Information must be current, especially for fast-changing topics like science or technology.
  5. Usability: A quality website is easy to navigate and works for users with disabilities.
  6. Coverage: Check whether the site covers the topic in enough depth, not just a surface-level overview.
  7. Design: A clean, functional design with few advertisements can indicate a credible source.
  8. Privacy and Security: Trustworthy sites have clear privacy policies and use secure connections (HTTPS).
