Types of Curriculum
Types of Curriculum
A school teaches more than one curriculum at the same time. There is the written one in the syllabus, the hidden one a learner absorbs from the way the school runs, the one made up of everything left out, and the one that happens in clubs and on the sports field. This chapter takes all four, because a developer who sees only the written curriculum is missing most of what a school actually teaches.
The four types of curriculum at a glance, and the explicit one: the written, measurable curriculum the school plans on purpose
The hidden curriculum of values, norms, and attitudes that learners absorb from the culture of the school, never formally taught
What a school leaves out: the topics, perspectives, and skills that never make it into the curriculum, and why the gaps matter
The voluntary activities, clubs, sports, and societies that supplement academic life without deciding promotion
