The top verbs (analyse, evaluate, create) are the higher levels of Bloom’s taxonomy. Anderson and Krathwohl (2001) revised it with Create at the top.
Compare what one generation did at school and at work with what the next is asked to do, and the skill requirements have changed sharply. Employers now want workers who think and work differently from their parents. A young person who can do only what the previous generation could do is, in effect, a copy, and a copy adds little that the economy did not already have.
Beyond Copying the Last Generation
The point of education in a knowledge economy is not to reproduce the workforce that came before. It is to produce people who can decide the right thing to do on their own, because the problems they meet will not match the ones in any textbook. That is why teaching itself has to change: students cannot learn independence from a lesson that only rewards obedience.
The skills that replace mere imitation tend to cluster into a small, recurring set.
The Skills That Recur
Across accounts of what a knowledge economy rewards, roughly the same group of skills keeps appearing.

Communication is worth a closer look, because it is easy to misread. Communication is not telling. It is a two-way loop, and it has not happened until you get a response, a comment, or a suggestion back. In a knowledge economy much of that loop is digital and often instant, and the work it carries has moved up: less filling in of forms, more reports, proposals, and multimedia presentations.

Problem solving carries a similar shift in expectation. In a knowledge job, running to a manager with every problem is not what earns a wage. The manager assumes you arrived able to frame the problem and synthesise a response from across what you have learned, alone or by pulling a team together.
From Using Technology to Creating With It
Most young people already use technology fluently, but often only for entertainment. That is not the skill employers are paying for. The demand is for people who engage with technology to gather knowledge and then communicate, collaborate, and innovate with it. Innovation here means bringing new ideas into a field, not just operating a device someone else built. The sharper version of the goal is blunt: young people should be able to create jobs, not only search for them.

Using technology for entertainment is not enough. Employers want people who engage with it to gather knowledge and then communicate, collaborate, and innovate, ideally becoming job creators rather than only job seekers.
Working at the Top of Bloom’s Taxonomy
The higher-order verbs that keep surfacing, analyse, integrate, evaluate, and create, are not random. They sit at the upper levels of Bloom’s taxonomy, a well-known ladder of thinking skills that runs from simple recall at the bottom to original creation at the top. A knowledge economy asks students to operate near the top of that ladder, not to camp at the bottom memorising facts.
Reading the demand this way makes the classroom task concrete. If employers want analysis, evaluation, and creation, then lessons that stop at recall are training students for the bottom rung of a ladder the job market expects them to climb.
Taken together, the recurring skills point one way: away from students who can recite, and toward students who can contribute.
