Moral and Value Education
Schools do more than teach subjects. They also shape how young people treat one another and judge right from wrong. This chapter looks at what moral and value education means, how a school can teach values for character without preaching, why the teacher’s own conduct carries so much of the lesson, and how people reason about right and wrong and act on it.
Coming Up
Values are learned partly through how a school feels day to day. The next chapter turns to the school and learning environment: the climate that helps or blocks learning, student discipline, and how a teacher manages behaviour without harm.
