Diversity and Quality in Private Education

Private schooling is rarely one thing. It ranges from almost-free one-room schools to elite chains, taught in different languages, run by different kinds of founders for different reasons. This chapter looks at where that variety comes from, what it does to equality and social cohesion, and why a school’s fee is a poor way to judge whether its teaching is any good.
