Technology is not a cure-all. It can do a lot, but it cannot do everything, and its limits show up fast in a real classroom. Some limits are about power and connection, some are about the devices themselves, and some are about the many ways any one of these can fail on a given day. Knowing the limits is the first step to planning around them.

Power, Bandwidth, and Broken Links

The most basic limit is supply. Without electricity, a device is dead weight; without enough bandwidth, connected lessons stall. In regions with unreliable power and weak connections, these two problems alone can end a lesson before it starts.

Failure rarely comes from one place. The device can break down, the connection can drop, the wider infrastructure can fall short, or a prepaid data account can simply run dry mid-task. Because there are so many separate points where things can go wrong, a class that depends on technology needs a fallback for the day the link snaps.

The device, the connection, the wider infrastructure, or a drained data account can all fail independently. Any single one stops the work, so no single fix makes the lesson dependable.

When Devices Do Not Match

Devices are not equal. When students bring their own, some run the latest software and race ahead while others, on older models, slow down or cannot reach a task at all because their device will not support it. That spread makes a single shared lesson hard to run.

Formatting adds to the mismatch. What one device can type, format, or display in a given font may look different or fail on another. One way around this is to make the devices uniform: the school buys a common device, or collects student devices and standardizes them, so everyone works on the same setup. Then there is security. A device is only useful if it stays safe, and the person using it is responsible for that. Lost or stolen equipment usually cannot be replaced by the teacher or the school, so physical and logical security both have to be part of the rules.

“Interoperability” means a device or file works across different settings. A document that opens at school but breaks at home is not interoperable, and a student cannot leave homework undone just because the home setup differs. Testing this before rollout saves lost work later.
