Ask whether students are ready for work the day they leave school, and the honest answer is often no. Systems load up on theory and offer little hands-on practice with the content and skills that employers actually screen for. Technology in the classroom is the first practical step toward closing that gap, because no career a student enters will be free of it.
The Skills Employers Now Want
The industrial era rewarded one set of skills. The current knowledge economy rewards another: working with information, solving problems, and using digital tools with confidence. A school that keeps preparing students for the older job market sends them out under-equipped for the one they will actually meet.
The ability to program is now treated by many educators as a foundational skill for every student, whatever career they later choose. Waiting until college is too late. A common recommendation is to build coding and regular device use into the middle grades, roughly Grades 6 to 8, and carry it through high school. Years of steady exposure, rather than a single late course, give students a real chance to master tools before they need them.
Steady practice across many years matters more than one intense course, because a skill used often becomes second nature rather than a fact to be memorised and forgotten.

Early, regular exposure through school and into higher education gives students enough time to acquire, use, and master the digital and problem-solving skills the current job market screens for.
The Teacher as a Coach, Not a Broadcaster
Technology does not remove the teacher; it changes the teacher’s job. When learning runs partly through software, a teacher can see, almost in real time, how far each student has moved, who is racing ahead, and who is stuck. That visibility is hard to get in a room where thirty students all face the front.
This shifts the teacher from broadcaster to coach. The software carries much of the delivery, freeing the teacher to watch performance and act on it. Can the student attempt the case study, solve the puzzle, finish the worksheet? If yes, the student moves on. If no, the teacher steps in with help aimed at that specific gap.
Good coaching attends to both sides of a student’s profile. Where a student is strong, the work continues without interruption. Where a student is weak, the teacher intervenes or the software runs a short intervention program built to shore up that exact skill before the student moves ahead.
