Common Confusions About Action Research

📝 Cheat Sheet

Common Confusions

Confusion 1

Reflection alone is not action research. You need data and a written record too.

Confusion 2

Trying one new method on a Tuesday is not action research. You need a plan, an intervention, evidence, and a written reflection.

Common Confusions

Two things students mix up.

Action research is not the same as reflection alone. Reflection means thinking about your teaching. Action research means thinking and collecting data and trying a change and writing it down. Reflection without data and structure is good practice, but it is not research.

Which one of these is NOT action research?

Action research is not just any classroom experiment. Trying a new teaching method one day is not action research. To be action research it needs a plan, an intervention, data, and a written reflection. Otherwise it is just a one-time classroom experiment.
