Software Developer · Teacher · Researcher · Open Source Author
I have written production code for over twenty years. Now I teach and research.
Courage to start, strength to persist.
I have been writing software for more than twenty years, in Go, C++, C, Objective-C, C#, Java, and the web stack. I built the learning platform that trains air force personnel in Turkey and China, and earlier the cash-dispenser software that ran the ATMs at Tameer Microfinance Bank.
I teach B.Ed. students now, people training to become teachers themselves. They learn about technology from someone who builds it, not only someone who teaches it. My research sits where computer science meets the classroom, and I hold an MS in Computer Science.

Publications
My published work covers AI-assisted learning, how trainee teachers make sense of generative AI, and machine learning applied to classroom and screening data.
Software Development
What I build
More than twenty years of production software, across the whole stack and down to the metal: React and Next.js on the front end, Go and C++ services behind them, and systems code in C.
Lead Design Architect
I am the lead design architect for a cross-platform application that runs on iOS, the web, Windows, and macOS. I wrote its first macOS client, and I work on all four platforms: Go, AWS, and PostgreSQL on the backend, React on the web, and Objective-C, Swift, C++, and Qt on the desktop and mobile clients, with WebRTC for real-time streaming. It is the most demanding work I have done.
AeroTrain LMS ↗
I built the AeroTrain learning management system in Electron, React, and PostgreSQL. It trains air force personnel in Turkey and China. The earlier pieces were mine too: the question bank in Java, and a first version of the LMS in ActionScript and C#.
Aerocar ATM systems
At Aerocar I wrote banking and ATM software in C and C++ on Linux: the device APIs for cash dispensers and card readers over serial ports, and the integration that connected the ATM application to the Nimbus payment switch. The machines were deployed at Tameer Microfinance Bank.
Also
- Real-time audio and video over WebRTC, in native clients across iOS, macOS, Windows, and the web.
- Web apps and sites in React, Next.js, and Astro.
- Open source that other developers install, most notably the Elegant theme for Pelican.

Open Source
Elegant
A theme for the Pelican static site generator.
I built Elegant, one of the most widely used themes for the Pelican static site generator. It shipped with built-in search when few static-site themes had any, and it came with thorough documentation. I no longer maintain it, but the theme and its docs are still online.
- Built-in search, rare for a static site at the time
- Thorough, standalone documentation
- One of the most popular Pelican themes of its time
Open Source
More open source
Beyond Elegant, I have released my own open source and landed commits in editors, static-site tools, and developer utilities I use.

Kind words
A few of the messages students and readers have sent me, in their own words.
Your teaching style is truly different from other teachers. The way you explain concepts makes them very easy to understand and remember. Your website was amazing too. Everything was organized so well, and the wording was so simple that I didn't need to use any AI tools or other sources. Your notes and lectures were more than enough to prepare confidently.
From making quizzes, engaging us in lectures, and preparing us for exams, you always did far more than what was required from your job. You have honestly changed my perspective about government teachers through your extraordinary commitment and passion for teaching.
The study links from your website were a huge help. My students prepared from them, and every one of them did really well in today's paper. They are very happy, and so am I. Thank you, sir.
I am not your direct student, but I have learned a lot from your YouTube channel. Your guidance and knowledge have really helped me.
We will never get a teacher like you. Today everyone attempted the paper happily, and it was a very creative paper. We have never taken such a paper before.
Thank you, sir. It was my first time doing such a paper. I hope my dream of studying in London comes true. Your level is amazing; you should be teaching in Europe, not in Pakistan.
You can, you should.
And if you are brave enough to start,
you will.
